Co-mmunity Collab
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: PASS members are getting ready to work at the Co-mmunity Store, a small convenience shop with a big heart. Co-mmunity by Co-leidoscopes is a non-profit organization, located near Commercial–Broadway Station, that offers all the good stuff: snacks, coffee, cream pony donuts… and even better, it features handmade goods and artwork created by talented makers with disabilities. It’s also the new home of items from the PASS Marketplace!
But now, we’re taking things to the next level.
Starting in the second half of October, PASS members will officially begin working volunteering shifts at the store. We’ll be the ones to open the shop, serve coffee, work the till, manage money and inventory, and keep things clean and welcoming. It’s all part of our growing Employment Program and a big step toward more inclusive workplaces.
Our team will be running the store during two shifts each week:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (to start, with hopes to extend those hours soon!).
Before all of this kicks off, several of our members went through an interview process with store manager Krysten and senior volunteer Steve (fresh from the barber chair!). They answered thoughtful questions, stayed calm under pressure, and truly impressed the team. Krysten and Steve had nothing but praise for everyone who participated. We couldn’t be prouder.
This partnership is more than just a job, it’s a meaningful opportunity for our members to build confidence, gain real-world experience, and take pride in their work. It’s also a powerful example of two organizations, both dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities, coming together in the spirit of inclusion.
Co-mmunity was founded by and is proudly staffed by young adults with Down syndrome.
Honestly, could there be a cooler collaboration than this?
Come by, grab a treat, and say hello! And in the meantime, check out our photo gallery featuring the PASS members who took part in the interview process. Big things are happening, thanks for cheering us on.
We came prepared, thanks to some solid interview practice sessions at PASS!
PASS was represented by two crews from PASS Vancouver and a dynamic duo from PASS Burnaby.
We were greeted and interviewed by Krysten and Steve.
Thomas and his teammate from the Burnaby team chose to attend their interviews independently, without a job coach, such a brave and confident decision! While we don't have any photos, you can be sure they showed up looking sharp in their best outfits and wearing their biggest smiles!
Well done everyone! Thank you Krysten and Steve!
