Blackberry Season at Stanley Park

It’s blackberry season at Stanley Park, and our members are busy making a difference in the beautiful park surrounding the Lost Lagoon.

Our members know well, that while blackberries are an invasive species, they can overshadow and prevent native plants from thriving. That’s why PASS sends two dedicated crews each week to volunteer with the Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) to help pull these invasive plants.

Our members work safely, wearing protective gear and following SPES crew instructions. It's a fulfilling and exciting outing, and nothing— not even the cold weather—can stop us. In fact, there's something magical about the frost on the leaves that makes the experience even more special!

Fraser is a true nature enthusiast and can name almost every plant we encounter. Tanya is an avid "puller," enjoying the physical challenge the task presents. Leo’s favorite part comes after the hard work is done: a reward in the form of a Seabus trip to Lonsdale Quay for lunch and some breathtaking views.

The crew truly deserves praise for their hard work and contributions to the community, but more importantly, we love that they enjoy what they do! Well done, team!
