PASS Members Shine and Make It Shine at Project Fitness
PASS is proud to share some exciting news, two of our members have secured paid shifts at a neighborhood gym, marking another meaningful step forward in inclusive employment.
We were approached by CJ, Manager at Project Fitness, who is also a former PASS volunteer. Having worked with our community before, CJ understands just how hardworking, detail-oriented, and dedicated our members are. He also recognizes the real employment barriers autistic individuals often face, and the importance of creating opportunities that are truly inclusive.
Thanks to this connection, PASS members Tanya and Philip are now part of the team at the gym. Their role is essential: cleaning and sanitizing equipment to ensure the space is safe, welcoming, and spotless for all members. And let’s be clear, this is not volunteer work. Tanya and Philip are held to high standards, expected to deliver excellent service, and they consistently do so. In return, they are fairly compensated for their work.
This is what inclusive employment should look like. Not charity, but opportunity. Not lowered expectations, but meaningful roles where people are valued and paid for their contributions.
Just one look at Philip’s face shows the pride and confidence that come with being recognized for a job well done.
We are incredibly grateful to CJ and the team at Project Fitness for making this happen. Partnerships like these make a real difference.
If you’re in the Strathcona, Mount Pleasant, or Chinatown neighborhoods, we encourage you to stop by, check out the space, and maybe even kick off your spring fitness routine there. You’ll be supporting a business that believes in community, inclusion, and giving people a fair chance.
